As a famous credit card commercial once tag-lined, “There are some things money can’t buy”. These things may include smiling faces, tears of joy, fresh inspirations, to name just a few, which have all been parts of my epic excursion to New Zealand.
All those precious moments did not come as a coincidence. Not only was I accompanied by fellow classmates who were ever friendly and fluent in English, but I also had a golden opportunity to meet new chums of different complexions and cultural backgrounds, like French, Brazilians, Mexicans, and Thai, just to name a few. You can imagine the amazing chemistry flared from within the group.
Through this trip, I realized how important it is to get myself familiarized with the world’s English cultures, not just the language itself. As English is only a window to appreciate the astonishing sights from around the globe, I must use this tool wisely to better understand what is happening around me.
Well, what else did I learn from the trip? I went skiing, luging and sight-seeing on a skyline gondola with the group, and discovered a plethora of things that textbooks do not cover. Of course, these were memorable moments that money cannot buy. Hundreds of cheerful pictures taken during the trip can bear witness to my foothold on cloud nine.
Last but not least, I have learned how to fit into people around me. The key to opening the door to friendship is to be kind to others and to treat others like your family. It's the best recipe to bake great relationships.
I really would like to re-visit such paradise with my friends if I am given a chance. For the time being, the videos I posted on YouTube will help me linger on the incredible experience I had on the other side of the world.
